Abstract

This section offers news briefs on the 2013/2014 budgets of several East African countries. As the Kenyan government aims to claw back revenues lost in past years, Kenyans are expected to pay more taxes to finance key infrastructure and social projects, including the increase in value-added tax. The government of Rwanda plans to spend 1.6 trillion Rwandan francs in fiscal year 2013-2014, which includes continuing the second phase of the Economic Development and Poverty Eradication Strategy.
