Abstract

The author discusses the municipal water supplies in western part of the U.S. especially California which has been squeezed by the increasing strength of agricultural water users. It notes that the state has accommodated a growth of water demand and acquired emergency drought water supplies through transfers of agricultural rights which have become more prevalent due to recent trends in agricultural commodity prices. It states that these trends are expected to continue in 2013.
