Abstract

The article reports a study which evaluated the effect of training primary care health professionals in behaviour change counselling on patients self reported changes in lifestyle. The results revealed that there was no significant change in behaviour at 3 months or on biochemical or biometric measures at 12 months, but, after counseling from trained clinicians, more patients recalled discussing health behaviour and an intention to change. They also reported having attempted to change.
