Abstract

The article reports on the decision of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in the U.S. to throw out a 45 million U.S.-dollar settlement case involving information services group Experian. It notes that the Court held that the plaintiff lawyers created a conflict of interest by negotiating a deal under which clients will receive 5,000 dollars each given that they do not object to smaller awards for other class members. Judge Ronald Gould considers the deal as an unethical conflict of interest.
