Abstract
- The article examines why federal student loan interest rates in the U.S. are so much higher than those typically found in the U.S. financial market in 2013. Topics include why U.S. Congress, which sets interest rates for federal loans, has not changed them since they were set in 2001, attempts by private lenders to ease the student debt burden on parents and college graduates, and why borrowers are not allowed to refinance federal debt.
