Abstract

This paper presents a Genetic Algorithm (GA) based optimization approach for assisting circuit design. The GA is developed to optimize the parameter setting for circuit design in order to achieve the required specifications in terms of noise figure, power gain, power loss, current, and circuit stability factors. Two case studies are presented in this paper: 15.12 GHz single pole double throw (SPDT) switch design and 5 GHz MMIC monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) design. The Agilent Advance Design System (ADS) is adopted to simulate the circuit performance of SPDT switch and MMIC LNA. The developed GA is compared to a number of built-in optimizer of ADS. Based on the results obtained, GA is shown to be capable in assisting circuit designs, solving the crucial circuit parameters for achieving the required specifications, preference and constraints.
