Abstract

Body sensor networks (BSNs) are an emerging class of cyber-physical systems (CPS) which present interesting challenges. One significant challenge is that unlike other CPS where the physical process of interest is engineered (automobiles, chemical processes, buildings, etc.), the physical process here, the human body, is not engineered and hence is more difficult to understand and model. BSNs are used in a broad range of applications, mostly healthcare related, and their design requires a holistic approach in order to address the challenges of meeting complex (and sometimes vaguely defined) application goals, with limited resources in a complex, and highly dynamic environment.
