Abstract

For gasoline engines, the technique called downsizing consisting in reducing engine displacement while preserving its performances has now become unavoidable to improve the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in the automotive industry. In this context, many studies have focused on the control of the air system in recent years. This paper presents briefly a model of this complex system and proposes a control strategy based on switching fuzzy model. In comparison with existing approaches, the proposed strategy can handle more easily the nonlinearities and facilitates considerably the global stability analysis of the system. In addition, this generic approach can be easily generalized for others complex turbocharging systems with small adaptations. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
