The article focuses on the role that institutional review boards and health information exchanges play in bioethical research and on the article "Does Consent Bias Research?" by Mark A. Rothstein and Abigail B. Shoben. In the article the authors offer their opinions on the role that medical records managers play in protecting the autonomy of research subjects and on several points which are raised in Rothstein and Shoben's article.
