Abstract
- The article details how tight budget constraints have forced local governments to reduce public services across the U.S. It discusses some of the strategies employed by local governments to cope with tight budgets, including cooperative agreements, compensation freezes, deferred maintenance and productivity improvements. The adverse implications of cutbacks on roads and other infrastructure are considered.
