- The article discusses the work of 18th century French physician and philosopher Julien Offray de La Mettrie and 18th century Netherlands born English philosopher, political economist, and satirist, Bernard de Mandeville, with a focus on the connection between morality and politics, and the role of virtue. Topics discussed include concepts of political philosophy and relativity in ethics, the work "Enquiry into the Origin of Moral Virtue," by Mandeville, and the concepts of epicureanism and the connection between virtue and happiness.
