Abstract

The article discusses the potential beneļ¬ts and risks of long-acting naltrexone in the treatment of opioid-dependent pregnant women. Three specific risks of the treatment are stated including direct effects of naltrexone on fetus, precipitated withdrawal during induction of naltrexone in regular drug users, and women's exposure to opioid relapse and overdose when they stop taking naltrexone after giving birth. The author hopes that the paper will stimulate interest in this challenging field.
