Abstract

The author discusses his methods for cleaning the horn silver (silver chloride) deposition on an antique Charles I shilling coin. For chloride removal, the coin was soaked in sodium thiosulphate solution, followed by brushing and cleansing with an ultrasonic cleaner. He mentions using ammonia solution for removing sodium sulphide produced in the first stage and suggests using eye protection and waterproof gloves for such chemical cleaning process.
