Abstract

The article discusses the popularity of place-based education among the outdoor educators in Haida Gwaii, British Columbia. As per Cliff Knapp, professor at the Department of Teaching and Learning at the Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, place-based education is a process of using the local community and environment as a starting point to teach the concepts across the curriculum. It discusses the concept of theory and philosophy in Haida Gwaii's higher education society.
