Abstract
- A biography of fur trader and Indian subagent Reuben Lewis, brother of explorer Meriwether Lewis, is presented. It examines his involvement in the Missouri Fur Company and reflects on the Pacific Fur Company. The author also considers Reuben Lewis' role in the Indian Factory system and his relations with the Osage and the Cherokee Indians on the Arkansas River.
