Abstract

The article discusses French-Canadian newspaper coverage of the Dieppe Raid, an Allied World War II operation in Dieppe, France on August 19, 1942 which involved predominately Canadian forces. It comments on the focus of coverage on the French-Canadian regiment les Fusiliers Mont-Royal, and how this focus shaped the myth in Québec that French-Canadian forces were the primary victims. The author considers Canadian World War II propaganda and reflects on themes of strategy, heroism, and loss in newspaper coverage.
