Abstract

The article focuses on the radio station All India Radio (AIR) in India. It states that AIR was once named as Indian State Broadcasting Service (ISBS) in 1930. It says that the India's first development plan for its media and broadcasting was launched in April 1951. It mentions the development in the AIR includes the start of the Yuva Vani service for the youth, broadcasting designed for the improvement of agriculture, and the thrust to programmes aimed to control the population, health, and hygiene. Moreover, several challenges faced by the radio station including the lack of personnel training, the union government controls the broadcasting in India, and competition from other broadcast modes such as television are cited.
