Abstract

The article presents a study which focuses on the extent of the comparison between scanning imaging absorption spectrometer for atmospheric cartography (SCIAMACHY) and CarbonTracker XCO<subscript>2</subscript>. The study uses the retrieval algorithms to minimize scattering related errors. Results show that a significant fraction of the difference between SCIAMACHY WFMDv2.1 XCO<subscript>2</subscript> and CarbonTracker over the southern hemisphere is explained by the presence of thin clouds.
