Abstract
- The article explores three plays that contributed to the trend toward tragicomedy in the theatrical marketplace in London, England. It particularly examines how John Marston's "The Wonder of Women," Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher's "The Woman Hater" share with William Shakespeare's "All's Well That Ends Well" in which a character offers a river metaphor to convey a sense of emotion. The authors' use of characters to influence audience reaction to their testing of genre is discussed.
