EDM: more than scanned paper.

The article discusses the examinations made by Brendan Major, the Managing Consultant of Kainos Evolve Healthcare Division, on the cost saving initiatives brought by the electronic data management (EDM) electronic alternative as compared with paper record process in Great Britain. It states that EDM systems can store, handle and distribute emails, faxes and scanned images and are also capable of integrating clinical and electronic patient record (EPR). It is noted that to remove or minimise costly and redundant processes, the National Health Service (NHS) Trusts is integrating these images and digitising paper notes to their systems allowing them to drive and design workflows.
