Abstract
- The one-pot reaction of an aryl aldehyde with 2-cyanopyridine and ammonium acetate in refluxing acetic acid produced the known 2-(2′-pyridyl)imidazole and fused imidazoles. This suggests that the steric effect of aryl rings plays an important role in these syntheses. A possible mechanism of the reaction is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
