Abstract
- The article examines how financial planner Timothy Wyman helped a retiring couple in Lansing, Michigan manage their retirement savings by using the husband's brokerage window retirement plan to invest money in bond funds. It discusses why employer-offered 401(k) retirement plans often decrease stock allocations as employees age, and how the less-publicized brokerage window plan allows aging employees to buy mutual funds as well as exchange-traded funds and individual stocks. Other topics include why investors prefer brokerage window plans to traditional 401(k)s or Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), the benefit of building a diverse investment portfolio, and how to check for hidden brokerage fees.
