Abstract
- The article discusses the authorship of an anonymous obituary on Russian poet and author Aleksandr Sergeevich Pushkin in the June 3, 1837, issue of the Croatian literary journal "Danica Ilirska." Based on a comparison with an obituary written by German literary critic Heinrich Josef Koenig, published earlier that year in the journal "Europa: Chronik der gebildeten Welt," the article concludes that the Pushkin obituary is a translation of Koenig's text. It points out that "Danica Ilirska" habitually published slightly altered translations of foreign texts. The article also discusses whether Croatian authors Stanko Vraz and Dimitrije Demeter, frequently mentioned as authors of the obituary, could instead have been the translators of the original German obituary.
