Abstract

The paper, through questionnaire survey and with six dimensions of capital, production, power, social strata, life and society as a point of tangency, studies the changes of social environment resulting from tourism development in Zhouzhuang ancient town. The results indicate that 1. the productive efficiency of tourism space depends on the development model and practical guidance should pay more attention to social efficacy; 2. tourism space production arouses the concern over existentialism and space adjustment should present humane care; 3. the key to optimizing tourism space lies in improving space quality and inclusive development should become future appeal. The study offers inclusive development orientation with upgrading space quality as the core; 1. strengthening socio-economic guarantee for local residents during tourism space production; 2. enhancing social cohesive capability; 3. promoting social inclusive capacity; 4. optimizing levels of residents' capacity for public rights. As tourists' gazes and practice of space producers enable original material attributes to tend to social attributes, space narration should become new approach for tourism space research. The application of the theory of space production in tourism study will bring about the changes in tourism study paradigm, enrich existing study theory, expand traditional study perspective and provide reference for the sustainable development of Zhouzhuang ancient town under the background of social transition.
