Abstract

The article discusses the economic impact of a drought on U.S. corn crops as of August 6, 2012, focusing on the loss of crops in states such as Indiana and Illinois due to the combination of record high temperatures and a lack of rain. The impact of a drought on restaurant workers and customers is also examined, including an expected increase in the price of crops which correlates to an increase in the price of restaurant meals. U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack's viewpoint on the drought is also mentioned.
