Abstract: The article presents a study which aims to describe the influence of different characteristics of assimilation system on the surface ozone in Europe. It states that the evaluation of the background error covariance matrix (BECM) was emphasized. The result of the study shows that the data assimilation system was efficient in bring the model assimilations closer to observations.
