Botswana as A ‘Development-Oriented Gate-Keeping state’: A Response.

The article discusses Botswana's economic policy, as of July 2012, in response to the article "Botswana: a development-oriented gate-keeping state," by Ellen Hillbom that was published in the journal during 2012. An overview of economic development in Botswana from the 1960s through 2012, including the role that the discovery of diamonds played in the country's economic development, is provided. An overview of the Botswana elite, including their relationship with the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), is also provided.
