Abstract

Over the last few decades, scientists have begun to unravel the molecular basis of cancer. This understanding has led to many new treatment targets. New compounds designed to specifically inhibit these targets offer great promise. Trastuzumab, imatinib, sorafenib and sunitinib are all examples of targeted inhibitors that have significantly advanced the treatment of certain malignancies. Since then there has been development of many new agents. In this chapter, we discuss the available small molecule signal transduction modulators and their affect on cancer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
