Abstract

Two different mechanisms of photoinduced melting were studied by femtosecond electron diffraction. The structural response of gold indicates an electronically-induced increase of the melting temperature. Bismuth was found to disorder within one vibrational period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
