The Design of an Autonomic Communication Element to Manage Future Internet Services.

Future Internet services will have vastly different requirements than the current Internet. Manageability, which has been largely ignored, will have the dual role of controlling capital and operational expenditures as well as enabling agile reorganization and reconfiguration of network services and resources according to changing business needs, user demands, and environmental conditions. Autonomic systems have the potential to meet these needs, but important architectural extensions are required. This paper examines the core building blocks of an autonomic system, and compares our approach to existing approaches with respect to Future Internet networks and networked applications.
