Abstract

Filani M. O. (1973) Air traffic forecasting: An input-output technique approach, Reg. Studies 7, 331–338. In the United States, air traffic forecasting has been too aggregative and narrow with little or no consideration for the highly interdependent nature of traffic exchanges among the cities within the entire national air transport network. The present paper is an attempt to eliminate this deficiency through the use of the basic input-output technique. Comparisons are made between actual and predicted traffic for the nation's 14 major cities for five consecutive time periods. The paper also demonstrates the temporal internal consistency in the interaction coefficients among the cities and on this basis predicts their 1975 total traffic. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
