Abstract
- The article critiques the book "Roxana," by Daniel Defoe, discussing Defoe's treatment of male manners. It compares the book's main male characters with the description of the mythological figure Narcissus in "The Characters, or, The Manners of the Age," by Jean de la Bruyère. It comments on the idea of the foolish man, opposition to vices and luxury, and moralist philosophy.
