Abstract

The article presents a study which examined the danger of transgenic selection and the new roles of Arabidopsis thaliana hexokinase (AtHXK1). It states that tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) plants that overexpress AtHXK1 showed inhibited growth, reduced photosynthesis and accelerated leaf senescence when planted in soil under regular growth conditions. It notes that based on studies, tomato is the only plant species tested which was affected by high level of AtHXK1 expression.
