Abstract

This paper discusses aspects of the functional variation, construction, and chronology of ten Linear (Danubian I or Linear Pottery) culture longhouses from Olszanica BI, Poland. In addition, a test was designed to determine if the primary function of the pits alongside the longhouses could have been to supply dirt for the wattle and daub walls. This test involved estimating the volume of dirt that the pits could have supplied and calculating the quantity of dirt needed for various thicknesses of the walls. Population estimates were made for the ten longhouses using Naroll's and Soudský's methods. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
