Abstract

CD-ROM technology and products are a daily fact of life to increasing numbers of serialists who work in both the public and technical services units of libraries. Manv have given considerable thought to cataloging serials on compute; opticailaser disks but we are not yet as intimately familiar with the twists and turns of this relatively new format. Examples and anecdotes provide the opportunity to gain an understanding that while formats and modes of access have evolved rapidly during the last decade, traditional processing of serials on CD-ROMs does not need to change radically to accommodate this new technology. This paper does not focus on issues typical of all serials. It addresses the unique aspects of this new technology and how catalogers can fully describe and provide excellent access to these serials.
