Abstract

The article discusses the field recording or phonography used in training the ear to be finely attuned and more receptive to acoustic phenomena. Phonography makes listening an active skill and reorients the listener outside of habitual perception using simple devices. This compositional tool has a rich and varied lineage that starts from the twentieth century in Musique Concrete where a composition requires an iron resolve to gratify the impulses of collectors.
