The article reports on the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' 2010 release of its final regulation on meaningful use of electronic health records in health care facilities. An overview of the Intravenous Device (IVD) Industry Connectivity Consortium, which was founded in 2008 to create and encourage the adoption of a unified connectivity standard with the goal of reducing the cost and variability of data exchange between IVD devices and health information technology, is presented.
