Abstract

The article discusses a pilot study concerning the role of SLC40A1, an iron transporter gene, in increasing the risk of tuberculosis. It is mentioned that frequency of mutation in SLC40A1 gene in 98 tuberculosis patients and 125 controls were studied which revealed the association of four single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the increased risk of tuberculosis. It further informs about the gene environment required for the interaction for four nonexonic SNPs and iron intake.
