Abstract
- The article focuses on a research conducted by B. Spellberg and team on the usage of iron chelator Deferasirox for the treatment of mucormycosis. As fungi belonging to order Mucorales require iron for their growth, people having iron overload in their body are at an elevated risk of infection by the fungus. In such cases deferasirox proves to be quiet beneficial as due to high affinity for iron, it limits the transfer of mobilized iron to the fungi thereby inhibiting the growth of the fungus.
