Abstract

The article profiles economist William Stanley Jevons and highlights the establishment of modern economics. It examines the special qualities which Jevons brought to the study of political economy as well as considers the effect which they may have had in forming his approach to the subject and the character of his contribution to it especially the contribution which he made in 1871. It compares Jevons' expectations regarding the future development of economics with the development which has in fact taken place in the intervening century. Topics such as marginalism and macroeconomic are discussed.
