SPRAWOZDANIE Z DZIAŁALNOŚCI BADAWCZEJ INSTYTUTU HISTORII NAUKI PAN W ROKU 2010.

This article is a summary report on the scholarly research undertaken in 2010 by the Institute of the History of Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The author first synopsizes the mission and work of the institute, which he compares to the Max-Planck-Institut für Wissenschaftsgeschichte in Berlin, Germany, in terms of its size, scope and reputation in Europe. He then notes the recommendation that the Institute be renamed in honor of Ludwik and Aleksander Birkenmajer, the two individuals responsible for shaping modern historical scholarship in Poland. Next, he provides a history of the institute and traces its areas of research, which focused primarily on the 19th through 21st centuries.
