Abstract

The article discusses the multistate outbreak of Salmonella Altona and Johannesburg infections linked to chicks and ducklings in the U.S. Officials in the U.S. and the mail-order hatchery industry have collaborated to develop and implement a comprehensive Salmonella control strategy in response to the public health problem on human Salmonella infections associated with live poultry contract. Actions suggested for mail-order hatcheries are offered.
