The article discusses the U.S. Christian right, examining the role of social conservatives in the U.S. 2012 presidential election. The article examines support for the Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum among groups including antiabortion activists, Christian businessmen, and Protestants, arguing that influential conservatives have increased support for Santorum. The article examines rhetoric used by Santorum in which he has described his campaign as a mission from God and looks at his views on abortion and gay marriage. Attitudes toward Mitt Romney, a Republican candidate and Mormon, are examined.
