Abstract
- The article discusses a study that investigated the prevalence of cosavirus in children and HIV-infected adults with gastroenteritis and control subjects without gastroenteritis in Brazil. Real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to test the study subjects. Co-infections with common viral pathogens causing diarrhea were analyzed to determine whether cosavirus causes disease in sick children. Evidence against cosavirus involvement in human gastroenteritis include unusually low RNA virus concentrations and the higher prevalence of cosavirus found in controls than in patients.
