Abstract
- Examines a previously unknown document witnessing a transaction between composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his principal Viennese publisher, Artaria, which appears in an inventory ledger compiled by the firm in 1787. Documentary, financial, and bibliographical contexts, which suggest that Mozart was paid in advance for six piano trios and twelve songs, but failed to complete the commissions in full; Decline in his publishing output; Possibility that Artaria may have been unwilling to pay him until the project was finished.
