Abstract

A microscopic calculation of the restoring force for isovector scissor vibrations using the wave functions of a triaxial Woods-Saxon potential shows that the experimentally observed splitting of the isovector M1 state inDy(50keV),Er(70keV) andYb(200keV) could be attributed to the presence of a possible small non-axially symmetric deformation ( γ=0.8°, 1° and 3° respectively).
