Abstract

Because of its high level of phytotoxicity, ozone is regarded as one of the most critical pollutants causing forest decline. Therefore it is necessary to monitor its concentrations over broad geographic areas. A simple method is described for monitoring ozon over a period between one and fourteen days. It is based on the candle method where exposed chromatographic paper (Macherey & Nagel, Nr. 827) impregnated with indigo reacts with ozon to isatin, which is easily determined after eluation with photometric methods (408 nm). The results derived from this method correlate very well with those obtained from other methods measuring the concentration of ozone in air. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
