Abstract

IOF, originally assumed to have a trigonal bipyramidal structure, is polymeric. Mass spectra confirm the existence of molecules with molecular weights up to three times the formula weight. Chemically, IOF is a strong Lewis acid and fluorine ion acceptor, thus forming the anion IOF. With SbF it forms a further polymeric compound (IOF·SbF).F-NMR, mass, IR and Raman spectra confirm the proposed structures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
