Abstract

The article examines the human resource (HR) practice of benchmarking in the United States. Benchmarking HR practices empowers a company to measure how it is delivering HR practices. It also enables a company to learn from other, and can be used to create a need for change. On the downside, benchmarking may be utilized to limit a company's performance. Two companies, namely, Digital Equipment Corp. and United Technologies Corp. provide different approaches to the uses, processes, and outcomes of HR benchmarking.
