Abstract

The thermosolutal convection in a fluid layer heated and soluted from below in a porous medium is considered to include, separately, the effects of a uniform horizontal magnetic field and a uniform rotation. The solute gradient, magnetic field and rotation are found to introduce oscillatory modes which were non-existent in their absence. The stable solute gradient, magnetic field and rotation are found to have stabilizing effects whereas medium permeability has both destabilizing and stabilizing effects. The sufficient conditions for non-existence of overstability are obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
